Colette, a co-worker, turned me on to a quiz she found…How Many Five Year Olds Could You Take in a Fight?

Friggin’ hilarious. I can’t say I’ve gotten the highest score but:

25

Too funny…there are some other ones there as well.

59%

And the more benign:

30

So, for whatever reason, I decided to give Twitter a try. I think I’m doing it more to say I’ve done it and avoid the “Yeah, I’ve heard of that but haven’t tried it” excuse. After all, I’m all about tech and especially all about Web 2.0 business so, what the hell?

Of course, I can’t shake my aversion to publicizing my personal details any more than I want to or have to (this blog excepted of course)…so you’re not going to find a knakai (well, you are only because I decided to reserve it by creating a separate account that I’m not really using) but you will find my alter ego under grieger.

Funny concept but I really don’t see how they’re making money on this. Looks like the standard Web 2.0 biz flip: try to get millions of users so you can sell the potential for revenue from advertising or something to some money-bags suitor…can’t say it hasn’t worked before but I can’t say it’s the most successful strategy so far.

Meanwhile, I’ve subscribed to the Penny Arcade duo’s twitter feeds: cwgabriel and TychoBrahe…sort of has the feel of a Web 1.0 dinosaur this Twitter. It has that air of something that people are keeping alive only because they represent the minority of people who actually like the service. No doubt they’re getting washed with waves of “Ooo…this is that thing I read about…” users who will, likely as I will, try it out for a little before getting bored or annoyed with it and moving on…leaving the dead crusty remains of an unused and unwashed user account sitting on Twitter’s servers for use by the marketing/PR department (We have more registered users than stars in the sky!!! Really!! We do! Fund us!).

Better idea, go visit Penny Arcade’s site (assuming you like gaming) here: http://www.penny-arcade.com/

And if you’re into animation, check out their UStream…when Gabriel (Mike Krahulik) is drawing, you get to watch a great illustrator work. Jerry Holkins is the writer and is Tycho. They really put out great stuff and they’ve got a charity they’ve been working on that is doing some great work as well: Child’s Play.
